Paul McCartney: Out There Tour

Less than an hour ago Kevin Donnelly and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced a major concert event for Winnipeg.  Sir Paul McCartney will play Investors Group Field on August 12, 2013.

This is Sir Paul’s first appearance in Winnipeg since his New World Tour played the Winnipeg Stadium in 1993.  I was a wide-eyed 23-year-old at the time and it was the biggest show I had ever been to.  It’s long been a night that I hoped to repeat. With luck I’ll be in the crowd August 12th at Investors Group Field.

Tickets go on sale April 29, 2013 at 10 am local time.  Ranging in price from $35 to $250.

Post 200 – Winnipeg: A pictorial day in the life

Wow I can’t believe this is my 200th post here on WordPress. It honestly seems like yesterday when Dar and I jetted off to New York City and through the encouragement of some people on another blog I started my own journey through life on the blogosphere.

It’s hardly been a smooth journey, I’ve lost my father, been kicked out and accepted back home.  We’ve been to countless restaurants and concerts, not to mention Blue Bomber football games and the awesome return of the Winnipeg Jets.

I’ve been kicking around a lot of ideas for today’s post.  I thought about doing many grand things, like telling you about the Winnipeg origins of the worlds most famous spy.  Or perhaps taking you on that grand tour of the Manitoba Legislature that I have been promising since almost the first sentence of my blog in late November of 2009.

Then I got to thinking about what this blog is all about, Winnipeg,  sure I write it and Dar and I get bit parts in my posts but honestly the city and it’s people are the stars.

So that’s what I’m going to focus on today, number 200 will take you on a tour of Winnipeg with pictures on a frosty winters day in February.

I hope you enjoy.

Winnipeg Mint

The sun is just climbing into the early morning sky as we begin our journey at the Winnipeg Mint. Here’s a snow sculpture of the Winnipeg Jets logo.
Three days of above seasonal temperatures and fog has covered everything in a beautiful layer of hoar frost.

Even the flags are silent in the cold winter’s morning

Next Year, Bombers.

It was a hard loss for us on Sunday seeing our struggling Blue Bombers crash hard in the 99th Grey Cup.  It wasn’t so much the score of 23-34 in favor of the B.C. Lions but all the emotions that were built up over a season of hoping and dreaming.

Mr. Doug Brown, has by all accounts played his last down of football in this or any other league.  He is the elder statesman of the team in most interviews and one hell of a battler on the defensive line.  For Doug to retire with 11 seasons as a Blue Bomber under his sizable belt without a Grey Cup ring on his finger is a shame.  But that is the vexing thing about pro sports.

On the Menu: Lions vs. Bombers – Grey Cup 99

Well as you all can expect I am getting a small house full tomorrow for the 99th Grey Cup.  My home town Winnipeg Blue Bombers are facing the B.C. Lions in Vancouver.

Blue and Gold Forever!!

So of course it falls to me to cook game day food. What do I have on the menu you may ask.  Well lots of things. Lots of things indeed.   I actually plan to round out the food groups this year which is something that has been lacking on past years.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers win, next stop the 99th Grey Cup.

I am sitting and defrosting as I write this.  Smiling too.  As I posted in Blue and Gold forever I am Blue and Gold through and through.

Getting ready for the game!

Today Darlene and I witnessed history in the true sense of the word.  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers prevailed over the Hamilton Tigercats by a score of 19 – 3 and won the East Final.  Next week will see them in the 99th Grey Cup vs the BC Lions.

East Side rule #1: Come early, stay late, cheer loud!

Now it’s all well and good that Winnipeg won the day, but it is also a bittersweet event that today was the last day that the venerable Winnipeg Stadium will play host to a Blue Bomber game.  Today the temperature hit a balmy -10 Celsius and the crowd turned out in full force.
