On the Menu: Lions vs. Bombers – Grey Cup 99

Well as you all can expect I am getting a small house full tomorrow for the 99th Grey Cup.  My home town Winnipeg Blue Bombers are facing the B.C. Lions in Vancouver.

Blue and Gold Forever!!

So of course it falls to me to cook game day food. What do I have on the menu you may ask.  Well lots of things. Lots of things indeed.   I actually plan to round out the food groups this year which is something that has been lacking on past years.

Sunday Journal – June 19, 2011

Happy Father’s Day Everyone.

First things first, let me add my voice to the growing throng who are pissed off as all hell at what happened in Vancouver this week.  To my mind it was a perfect storm of emotion and alcohol fuelled mayhem that only needed a spark to explode.  I believe that at the heart of the Vancouver riot there was a core element that was not there to celebrate game 7.

Vancouver Riot

Who in their right mind shows up to a street party with a baseball bat or Molotov cocktail? This was not a riot based on the win or the loss of a hockey game in my opinion. This was a deliberate act by a core group of hateful people who were determined to twist the drunken emotion of a hopeful crowd into a violent orgy of hate.  Mission accomplished.  I hope you were stupid enough to get your picture taken by one of the hundreds of cameras present at the event.

May you feel the hot breath of your new butch cellmate on the nape of your neck as he introduces you to life in jail! Bitch.

My Epic Roadtrip. NHL Playoffs – Vancouver 1994

At this time in 1994 I was on an epic road trip.  One worthy of any Animal House camera crew and probably John Belushi himself.

I was living with a few friends at the time, one of whom was a rabid Vancouver Canucks fan.  We would get off of work from the video store which we both worked in, drink beer and drive his girlfriend absolutely nuts.  I am actually ashamed to say it now but she fled to their bedroom while us guys hooted and shouted urging the Canucks on.

Germans and Aussies and Roo’s. Oh My!

A funny thing happened today while I was checking a few things on my blog. Normally I come home from my day job in the “Fibreglass Mines” and check my E-Mail, look at my stats map and try to figure out my plan of attack for my next riveting piece.

But today as I was checking things I noticed something rather odd. It seems that someone had run my blog through a German translation device.  Now maybe I am as crazy as a long-tailed cat stuck in a room full of rocking chairs but it made me smile just the same.
