It seems very proper that on the eve of Canada’s Victoria Day long weekend, Buckingham Palace has included Winnipeg on our Queen’s itinerary during her Canadian visit this June and July.
Unlike America, Canada retains a close parliamentary connection to the British Royal Family. Indeed The Queen is our Head of State, and traditionally all governmental powers flow from the Crown. Those of you not native to Canada can easily spot Queen Elizabeth’s portrait on our currency.
This years Royal Visit to Canada marks the 24th time Queen Elizabeth has visited Canada since her first visit in 1957. The Canadian journey will take place from June 28th to July 6. With a whirlwind visit to Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 3. It’s thought that her stops in Winnipeg may include The Canadian Museum for Human Rights, The Manitoba Legislature and perhaps James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.
There is some speculation that while in Ottawa for Canada Day on July 1st, that she may install a new Governor General to replace Michaëlle Jean our current representative to Her Majesty The Queen.
In any event Canada will welcome the Royal Couple to our shores with open arms. May they enjoy our hospitality.
