Meowy Christmas

I just came upon a little tidbit that my friends who run the show over at Catsworking are going to love.

Yul, Adele and Cole were right all the long apparently, cats it seems have been training humans for thousands of years.  Robert Alison in his Winnipeg Free Press article dated Dec 21, 2009, states that for at least 10,000 years cats have been training humans to do their bidding, not the other way around.

It appears that cats originally picked humans to live with because of our ability to attract mice and other rodents.  Cats used purrs and calls to mimic the cries of infant humans in trying to get an emotional response.  These cries are often exaggerated to get the greatest human attention.

But it was a two-way street, studies have shown that cat ownership leads to a benefit in the human cardiovascular system, and giving humans a “non human support system” in times of stress.

So I guess you had it over there at Catsworking, Karen you just keep the lights on and the food coming.  The cats may let you get a word in edgewise now and then….

  1. Bob, the cats have been sitting on the study that Robert Alison referred to. It’s been out there for a while, but for some reason they never chose to comment on it. However, their ability to mimic a baby’s cry was what won them the Communication category in the recent dog vs. cat study. They know a well-modulated meow is more persuasive than any bark could ever hope to be.

And if listening to cats has any physical benefits for people, then I should have the healthiest cardiovascular system on the planet because my 3 rarely shut up!
